Office Space: Decorating the Walls

Office Decor

One of the things I appreciate most about this new house of ours is that every wall is painted white, with the exception of one wall in the back foyer area that has wallpaper on it… and that’s coming down. After living in our last home for 4 years with bright olive green and teal walls (still colors I adore), it got to be a little much for me visually, and it was really hard to work with. Having white walls with giant windows makes everything feel so light and tranquil, which I’m sure has played a small role in feeling like we are more at home here. And the great thing about white is that when I do want to paint, it’s ready to go!

A few posts back, you got a small glimpse into our office space- it was a mess and filled with boxes and unpacked stuff. We’ve slowly been working on it, chipping away at either unpacking and putting crap away, or getting rid of things we don’t want. I get really overwhelmed by unorganized spaces, and I also have a difficult time knowing how to best organize a space. So I’ve always been pretty screwed in this area, but thankfully I married a man (and got a bonus prize mother-in-law) who both know how to organize exceptionally well. They’ve always helped me out when I’ve just had to give up. This time around, though, I’m determined to make this office space what I want it to be, so I’m doing little bits at a time and forcing myself to be ok with the rest not being done.

A couple of days ago, I wanted to put up some pieces that made the office feel a little more like me, in hopes that it would inspire me to continue with my mission. I enjoy the pieces I’ve picked up over time, and have better curated my collection of prints and decor to better fit this new house. What you see above are a fun collection of pieces from all kinds of places and people. The top left piece is actually a card that I found at Trader Joe’s over a year ago. I put it in a $3 ikea frame and it’s so cute. The “treat yo’ self” canvas was a Christmas gift from my friend Kristi. She’s a keeper, that girl. The deer piece I purchased from The Bee and the Sea about a year and a half ago (man, time flies), and it’s still one of my favorites. The gorgeous calendar I purchased fromĀ Rifle Paper Co., and they have a ton of really cute stuff that you should definitely go sift through RIGHT NOW. The larger frame I picked up at Hobby Lobby when I went shopping with some lady friends last December, and the small clock piece is one of my faves from jesiiii. She has a lot of new goodies up in her etsy shop!

Here’s a few pieces I completely forgot about that I’d like to put up with the rest, and eventually have a gallery style wall. The peacock print is from She Reads Truth, a women’s daily study that you can download on your phone. They have study books and journals you can use to go along side of the app, and they usually come with original artwork from their featured artists and contributors. The little doodle next to it was something I wrote out one day while I was thinking about God’s relentless pursuit. It’s something I want to be reminded of daily, and I think it will go nicely with the rest of the prints and pieces.

I’m the kind that tends to have a vision, and expect it to all get done and be perfect immediately. But, I have to accept that I don’t have the funds nor the energy to take on what I have pictured in my head. So hey- another area in my life where I get to be patient is good for me. If you’re a human, then you know patience is hard.

But forever learning it makes for a better person.
