Sharknado, My First Facial and Other Summer Happenings

New Things // JATW

This summer Sharknado-ed me, you guys. But, in this instance, the sharks were neat people and the tornados were new opportunities… and I didn’t want to take a chainsaw to it. Instead, I let myself get pulled in.

Ok, that was ridiculous. But you know what I’m saying. It was just a pretty rad summer. I got to meet so many people, several from all over the country and some right here in Lake City, Fl. I felt like I accomplished more in these past couple of months than I did in entire years past. There were incredibly high moments, and some pretty rough days. But, I feel like all seasons are like that, right? Some having more than the other. But overall, it’s been a season of entertaining fresh dreams, rekindling old ones, and gettin’ sh*t done.

Here’s what happened in a nutshell:

1) Flew to Tulsa, Oklahoma where I was able to meet people I’ve been networking with online for a year, speak and sing one of my original songs, and ALMOST meet Hanson (P.S. That’s the furthest west I’ve been in the United States)

2) Experienced my first facial and cocktails by the pool (thanks to My Aunt Aileen and Uncle Tim)

3) Road Tripped with my best friend one last time before she moves to London in TWO DAYS (we played a game in the car that involved trying to top each other with the worst/best Christian pop songs of the 90’s-00’s)

4) Launched Broad Sauce (which you can now buy if you click on that nifty image to your right)

5) Started The Emerald Thread ( A gathering of stories through music, coffee and conversation)

6) Started writing sporadically for Bedlam Magazine

7) Joined the staff writers at Bedlam Magazine (that was an awesome email to receive amidst the crappiest of weeks, so kudos to Cory and Cassi for timing)

8) Spent an entire day in David and Nina’s minivan with Daniel, traveling 800 miles round trip to pick up an AWESOME Ikea couch for free (It was almost better and more relaxing than vacation)

9) Started transitioning into Paleo eating (NOT because I need to look a certain way, but because everything that’s processed gives me a migraine now)

10) And lastly, have had countless conversations with new and old friends, resorting in healing, better life-awareness and copious amounts of laughter

Oh my gosh, and I bought some new Moleskine notebooks. They were on sale at TJMAXX, and I got a two pack for $6.99. I was the winner of all winners that day.

How was your summer? What were the highlights?

My Everyday Face

Vintage Makeup Case // JATWSo, I have a decent amount of makeup. Now by “a decent amount”, I just mean that I have more than I typically use on any given day. I know there are plenty of ladies out there that have drawers full, and that’s cool too. I’m also pretty messy about my makeup. I asked for a vintage makeup case this past Christmas, thinking it would help me contain and organize it a little bit. It kinda of has… but I’ll always be cluttery. It’s in ma bones.

Messy Makeup // JATWThis wasn’t staged,  I promise. And yes, I set makeup in the sink because we never use the sink in our master bath anyway.

But anyways, I thought it would be fun to showcase my daily picks when it comes to makeup. Since a good portion of my week ends up being an adventure that I didn’t plan, I don’t put a ton of makeup on. I hate waking up any earlier than I have to, so I don’t have much time. But here’s what you’ll normally see on my face:

Magic Nude Liquid Powder from Loreal // JATWLoreal’s Magic Nude Liquid Powder may be the best thing I’ve ever discovered. You don’t have to use a sponge or brush to put it on, it has sunblock in it but doesn’t smell like it, it blends in with my skin flawlessly, and somehow makes my face look like I don’t have foundation on, but I do at the same time. AAANNNDD… it’s $10.

F21 Bronzer // JATWThis Forever 21 Bronzer is my most recent daily addition, and I’m really diggin’ it. I use the top and bottom left to highlight my face, and the top and bottom right for shadowing and blush. I haven’t used a bronzer in years, because I’m just the pastiest compared to my past sun-kissed skin tone. But this one manages to blend in well and not make me look like a beach face with a winter body (if that makes any sense).

Eyes // JATWHard Candy is great. So far everything I’ve bought from them goes on like something I bought at Sephora, but only costs me a fraction of the price. Their Lite Bright Concealer is great under the eyes, and it seems to last forever. I’ve discovered that this Maybeline mini palette goes really well with my skin tone. I’m usually one to gravitate towards blues and greens, because they are my favorite colors, but I’ve started to branch out. The Flamed Out Mascara from Covergirl is whatever… nothing special. Honestly, every mascara I’ve ever bought has been pretty much the same ol’ thing.

Naked 2 Palette // JATWWho doesn’t love the Naked 2 palette, am I right? Every now and then, I’ll get around to using all of them, but I apply Foxy every day.

NYX HD Studio Powder // JATWThis NYX finishing powder, as far as I’ve heard and have now experienced on my own, is exactly the same thing as the Makeup Forever HD finishing powder, but you get a lot more for a lot less. And it does exactly what it implies: It finishes my daily makeup routine.

So what do you use on a regular basis? Anything unique about your daily makeup routine?

To Be Inspired.

I’m a very visual person, so I really enjoy inspiration that I can look at and that will stimulate me, even if it’s in a small way.

I’ve been adding to my daily visual inspirations here and there, as I’ve gotten little bits of spending cash. For those of you that know me, some of these additions have been thrifted. But I’ve also really gotten into smaller, artisan prints and creations lately, and have enjoyed supporting other’s talents. It’s nice to buy something and know exactly who’s hands made it.

I just cleaned off my walls this week, and I’m excited to start putting all of these pieces up.

Thrifted Pieces // JATW

I found these at a local thrift store, and both in such good condition. Usually pieces like these are stained or some of the thread has been pulled out. The top one is an especially encouraging inspiration.

The Bee and the Sea // JATW

I’ve been following Betty of deerlittlefawn for quite some time now, and finally decided to purchase some of her gorgeous prints. It was really hard to choose, because all of her stuff is so great. I’ll definitely be back for more. If you like what you see, go grab some prints at The Bee and The Sea .

Makers Gonna Make // JATW

When I was visiting Greenville, South Carolina a few weeks back, I was finally able to visit Knack Studios and see my spirit animal Angie Thompson. She was sweet enough to give me this print by Jude Landry from The Makers Summit she attended. Sidenote: if you are EVER in or around Greenville, please go enjoy Knack Studios. You will not be disappointed.

Jesiiii print // JATW

This print speaks for itself. It’s just the most adorable thing ever. Want one? Go get it at jesiiii’s etsy page! She has gnome pillows, hand painted rings, and all kinds of handmade pieces.

Flower Tapestry // JATW

I really, REALLY like this. So much. And I don’t know why. It was a dollar at the Hospice Attic in town and it’s not even finished… I don’t think? This tapestry is perfect just the way it is.

Vintage Bohemian Platter // JATW

I mean, just look at it.

Florida Panther // JATW

Ya’ll, this is so fun to me. The frame is huge, so I just took a closeup of the middle. I’m not NOT going to buy a giant embroidered Florida Panther. Gosh.

This is nothing new.
